The Washington Memorials

In Washington, memorials are numerous and remembrance is everywhere, represented in every way. Some buildings make an impression – like the one dedicated to Franklin Delano Roosevelt on the National Mall or to Abraham Lincoln, sixteenth president of the United States. Some are moving, as reflected by the Vietnam Veterans Memorial with its vast black wall listing the names of soldiers killed or missing during the Vietnam War between 1955 and 1975. The Korean War Veterans Memorial or the National World War II Memorial are of the same kind. Others, at any rate, are made delicately, as witness the Jefferson Memorial on the East Potomac Park peninsula looking over the Tidal Basin.
