1953: The beginning

The People's Grand Hotel (Renmin Dasha) opens on a site where, according to legend, a pot of gold was once found. The hotel is the largest in northwest China.

1954: A convergence of global culture

The Xi‘an People's Hotel Theatre opens. A renowned cultural centre, it hosts thousands of opera, dance and orchestral performances. Today, it is one the hotel's exquisite event venues.

1985: A gracious welcome

The sentry post to the hotel complex is removed and the public is welcomed to this once-mysterious building. Former visitors and guests can visit the building freely.

1950s-2000s: An exclusive guest list

The People’s Grand Hotel is Xi’an’s destination of choice, hosting world leaders, artists, writers and actors visiting both in official capacities and to marvel at the famed Terracotta Warriors.

2014: The legend continues
