Since its opening in 1953, this celebrated Xi’an landmark has hosted presidents and poets, princesses and performers. In its museum, discover precious items including golden trays exclusively used for serving foreign dignitaries. Stroll in the tranquil garden, home to numerous centuries-old trees.

Unrivalled gastronomy

The restaurants at the People’s Grand Hotel were renowned for serving the most delicious food in northwest China. People travelled hundreds of miles to savour the Chinese cuisine, and many of the chefs preparing European gastronomy had trained at foreign embassies. One chef became so famous, he was appointed to a political position.

Lasting symbols of peace and friendship

In 1964, Zhou Enlai, then vice chairman of the Communist Party, visited Albania. As a token of friendship and goodwill, he was presented with olive tree saplings, some of which he gave to the People’s Grand Hotel. You can see 18 (a lucky number in Chinese) of these trees in the hotel garden, where they continue to thrive.
