1621: The Convent

Through a generous bequeathment of 2,500 pesos from Ms. Catalina de Cabrera, the Santa Clara de Asís Convent is built to house the Poor Clares order of nuns.

1861: The eviction

The Poor Clares are evicted from the Convent. For over a century, the building bears witness to both tragedy and triumph as it serves as a hospital, prison and medical school, before being abandoned.

1995: The rebirth

The building is regenerated as the Santa Clara Hotel, beginning its renaissance as an iconic landmark in Cartagena's rich tapestry of architectural history.

2012: The legend begins

Following a restoration and redesign project, the hotel becomes the Sofitel Legend Santa Clara Cartagena, joining an exclusive collection of landmark heritage properties around the world.
