Morocco is not merely a destination: it’s a symphony of sensations. For the discerning traveler, Sofitel offers Moroccan mystique reimagined through the lens of French sophistication. Whether you’re strolling through the medina, dining under desert stars or sipping cocktails by lantern light, your hotel becomes your sanctuary – and gateway to the country’s soul.

Why travel in Morocco?

The land of contrasts and charms

Morocco stands at the crossroads of Africa, Europe and the Middle East – a place where Berber, Arab and French influences converge in a vibrant cultural mosaic. Few countries offer such an extraordinary blend of history, geography and culture.

Here, centuries-old medinas coexist with cosmopolitan boulevards. Snowy mountains give way to golden deserts. Colorful souks lead to serene riads. For the luxury seeker, travel in Morocco promises an intoxicating blend of heritage and indulgence: think private desert picnics, haute cuisine with a twist of harissa and spa treatments rooted in ancient wellness rituals.

Planning essentials for travel to Morocco

Spring (March-May) and fall (September-November) offer the most comfortable temperatures. Ramadan is a unique time to experience Morocco but requires careful travel planning.

The official languages are Arabic and Berber. French and English is widely spoken. In Sofitel hotels, English-speaking staff ensure effortless communication.

Morocco is generally safe for luxury travelers, but as with any destination, exercise common sense in busy areas.

Light layers are best, with elegant evening wear for Sofitel dining. Modest clothing is required if visiting a mosque.

Trains (ONCF) are efficient between cities; Sofitel also offers bespoke transfers and private chauffeurs for seamless travel.

The local currency is the Moroccan dirham, which you will need for souk shopping and entry to certain museums. Euros are widely used for taxis and in restaurants, and credit cards are accepted in most upscale venues.

Tipping is appreciated: a general rule is to round up taxi fares and tip 10% in restaurants.

While a valid UK or EU licence is generally accepted, a 1968 International Driving Permit is highly recommended. Drive on the right and remember never to drink and drive. Always check your government’s website for the latest regulations before traveling. See the US version here.
