Chef Daniel Schlaipfer

Daniel Schlaipfer has been devoted to Portuguese food for two decades. He also brings international culinary experience that weaves its way through his inventive recipes. Daniel is widely admired for his attention to detail – immediately apparent on his colourful, exquisite plates. From seeking out the best in-season ingredients to chatting with guests, he is an ambassador for Portuguese cooking.

A menu honouring land and sea

Fine produce from the Atlantic coast and nearby farms elevates the menu at Matiz. Chouriço and alheira sausages are made by local artisans. The piri piri comes from our own garden. The lamb is raised on wild mountain herbs and grass, and seasoned with salt from ancient mines. France and Portugal intertwine in dishes like bisque with local seafood, or our pâtisserie display of housemade pastries.

Restaurant awards

We are thrilled to have been recognised with two different awards for our restaurant in 2023. Matiz won prizes at both the World Luxury Restaurant Awards and the LUXE Global Awards.
