City Description
What city better than Ho Chi Minh City, promotes a feeling of freedom? What was for a long period known as Saigon, is a peaceful, welcoming city, now more than ever, open to the world. A fusion of history and modernity, tradition and novel horizons, the largest city in Vietnam is presently a land of opportunity and tourism.
The centre and surrounding area are dotted with numerous points of interest. The famous and grandiloquent Cu Chi tunnels feature amongst those not to be missed.
Initially dug during the French Indochina Period, these underground, grandiose galleries, were meant to house soldier garrisons, but were continuously expanded throughout the 20th Century to presently extend 250 kilometres.
Amongst the many delights Ho Chi Minh City has to offer, the Opera House is a must-see. Located at the heart of the City, not far from the famous Cathedral of Notre-Dame, this amazing building, built by French architect Eugène Ferret, is sure to impress with its magnificence. This white-coated striking building boasts the pretty French architectural style of the Third Republic. Symmetrical shapes, it clearly serves as testimony of the tolerance and openness of the Vietnamese.
Another architectural masterpiece awaits visitors: the Bitexco Financial Tower. This 262.5-metre tall skyscraper stands at the heart of the city's financial district and proudly displays its lotus flower-inspired unique design. With its rounded lines, turquoise hues and atypical contours, the Bitexco Tower in itself, is worth the visit.
If Vietnam is regarded as one of the wonders of the world, Ho Chi Minh City is definitely one of the best representatives.
