The very name of Jeddah goes back to time immemorial where legends and reality mingled together, when this city was chosen to be the place where the tomb of Eve would rest. So it was quite logical that her name would be given to Jeddah, meaning "grandmother" in Arabic, this city that was originally a small fishing port on the road to Mecca.
