City Description
From its grandiose heights created from the lush and imposing countryside to its beaches encircled by lagoons of a thousand shades of blue, the island is the keeper of many surprises. Fancy taking to the dirt roads to unearth them? Take a trip to Opunohu Valley Ranch for a day of total immersion in the Polynesian countryside and discover the wonders of the island on horseback, from the ridges of the col des Cocotiers. Always a magical sight. And nowhere could be better-equipped than the internationally renowned Gump biological research center, for teaching you about the local fauna and flora. After this scientific break, why not go to the Green Pearl golf course, on the eastern side of the city, for an afternoon of sports among the palm trees, with the impetuous ocean as your backdrop. With its central location, the village of Maharepa, is a great starting point for exploring some of the majestic beaches, including Opunohu. In this jewel of Moorea, you can have a go at scuba diving. And if those places blessed by the gods reawaken the explorer in you, head to the south coast of Moorea and discover its wild side. The beaches are less crowded there, with ancient Polynesian monuments located nearby along with a typical Tiki Village. Once back in Maharepa with its houses on stilts, enjoy a fresh fruit juice accompanied by a poe, a Polynesian dessert made from vanilla, coconut and banana for a delicious end to the day.
