Art & Design Rio de Janeiro, Brazil
The Museum of Modern Art unfurls its imposing concrete frame in Guanabara Bay, right in the heart of Rio’s largest park, the Flamengo. Designed in the 1950s by Affonso Eduardo Reidy, the grandfather of modernism, the architecture alone is worth the visit. This museum dedicated to 20th century art boasts one of the largest collections of Brazilian art in the world. Explore the permanent exhibition, Genealogias do Contemporâneo, with renowned artists including Maria Martins and Di Cavalcanti, shown alongside their European contemporaries, Giacometti and Léger. Then pull up a chair at the Laguiole, the MAM's restaurant. The cellar at this fantastic example of Carioca gastronomy is one of the most highly regarded in Brazil.
