The Markets of Beijing

Chinese markets are renowned for their unique atmosphere, wide selection of products and street food. For pearls, head to the Hongqiao Pearl Market; for plants and flowers, make sure to visit the Laitai Flower Market. But the biggest and most decadent of them all has to be Panjiayuan, the antiques market. Books, ancient scrolls, furniture, stone sculptures... The best bargains can be found early in the morning, but beware of fakes. To the north and east of the market, a range of little stalls sell the most sophisticated items that Panjiayuan has to offer, at a higher price.
