Art & Design Amsterdam, Netherlands
Since 2012, Amsterdam's Stedelijk Museum of modern and contemporary art has been housed in the same building since it opened in 1895. The impressive extension designed by Mels Crouwel gives you the impression of looking at a giant bathtub. Inside, you can discover a unique collection of paintings by Kazimir Malevich and an amazing concentration of pieces representing the Cobra and De Stijl movements (including Piet Mondrian and Theo van Doesburg). While sculpture, photography and design have not been forgotten here, it is paintings that are the true stars, with examples of renowned artists including Matisse, Monet, Chagall, Renoir and Karel Appel. Creativity in the broader sense of the word is also celebrated here, with temporary exhibitions that are always remarkably unique.
