Art & Design Sydney, Australia
Sydney, the city with a relatively short history, took its time to open its ambitious art gallery, but made up for it in the 19th century with the construction of the Art Gallery NSW, which is now one of the biggest galleries in Australia. Once you've walked through the colonnades of this imposing classical building, reminiscent of an ancient temple, wander through its five floors and marvel at its wonderful collections of drawings, paintings and sculptures. European schools are represented from the Middle Ages onwards, as is Asian art, although the focus is on Australian artists from colonisation to the present day. Last but not least, don't miss the Yiribana Aboriginal Gallery, dedicated to aboriginal art, without which this fantastic panorama would not be complete.
